Studying the effects of minimal length in large extra dimensional models in the jet + missing energy channels at hadron colliders

Theories of quantum gravity suggest the existence of a minimal length scale. We study the consequences of a particular implementation of the idea of a minimal length scale in the model of large extra dimensions, the ADD model. To do this we have looked at real graviton production in association with a jet at hadron colliders. In the minimal length scenario, the bounds on the effective string scale are significantly less stringent than those derived in the conventional ADD model, both at the upgraded Tevatron and at the Large Hadron Collider.Comment: Latex, 9 pages, 4 PS figs; final version to appear in Eur Phys J

DiffServer: Application Level Differentiated Services for Web Servers

    Get PDF
Web content hosting, in which a Web server stores and provides Web access to documents for different customers, is becoming increasingly common. For example, a web server can host webpages for several different companies and individuals. Traditionally, Web Service Providers (WSPs) provide all customers with the same level of performance (best-effort service). Most service differentiation has been in the pricing structure (individual vs. business rates) or the connectivity type (dial-up access vs. leased line, etc.). This report presents DiffServer, a program that implements two simple, server-side, application-level mechanisms (server-centric and client-centric) to provide different levels of web service. The results of the experiments show that there is not much overhead due to the addition of this additional layer of abstraction between the client and the Apache web server under light load conditions. Also, the average waiting time for high priority requests decreases significantly after they are assigned priorities as compared to a FIFO approach

Controlled synthesis of crystalline tellurium nanorods, nanowires, nanobelts and related structures by a self-seeding solution process

    Get PDF
Single crystalline nanorods and nanowires of t-Te have been prepared by a simple solution route. The procedure involves the disproportionation of NaHTe, prepared by the reduction of Te with NaBH4. By carefully controlling the reaction conditions, the diameter of the nanorods could be varied in the 20-300 nm range. Nanowires of 10 nm diameter were obtained in the presence of sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate. Te nanobelts and nano junctions were obtained by employing hydrothermal and solvothermal conditions. The nanorods have been characterized by a variety of microscopic and spectroscopic techniques. UV-Visible spectra reveal two absorption bands, one around 300 nm which is size-sensitive and the other at 600 nm insensitive to size

Stabilisation of Red Phosphorus to Prevent Moisture Absorptionand Suppression of Phosphine Release

Red phosphorus (RP) is an essential ingredient to generate smoke for multi-spectralobscuration and is receiving wide attention throughout the world for military applications. However, oxidation of phosphorus occurs in moist air resulting in the formation of variousphosphorus acids and subsequently the evolution of the toxic gas, phosphine (PH3), even inthe sealed systems. Entrapped moisture leads to deterioration of the stores. The commercial-RPat ambient temperature and 95 per cent  RH conditions indicates 15 per cent  moisture absorptionand 13 per cent acidity development with the generation of more than 100 ppm of phosphinegas. Efforts were made to overcome this problem by suppressing acid formation. The technologyadopted was: (i) use of stabiliser, and (ii) doping stabiliser-coated particles with polymericsubstance. The aim to use metal oxide as stabiliser was to neutralise the phosphorus acids, which are catalysing the phosphine generation. MgO due to its basic nature seems to be fasterthan amphoteric Al2O3, in removing the acid from site of reaction, thus suppressing the phosphinerelease effectively. Though MgCO3 as stabiliser suppresses moisture absorption and aciditydevelopment, phosphine release is not controlled effectively. Study of RP coated with thesematerials independently and monitoring them at different RH conditions indicated superiorityof MgO in suppressing acidity and phosphine formation

Study of utilization of antenatal care services in tribal area of Thane district

Background: Many health problems among pregnant women are preventable, detectable or treatable through visits to health facility before birth. This enables women to receive important services, such as tetanus vaccinations and screening and treatment for infections, as well as potentially life-saving information on warning signs during pregnancy.2 The objective of this study is to understand the current status of utilization of maternal health services in rural area by elucidating the various factors influencing the use of these services. Methods: It is a community based, cross sectional study carried out in a primary health centre in tribal area of Thane district. Results: 93% women received ANC care for 3 or more than 3 times. 73% women received recommended antenatal care. 68% women received ANC care exclusively from public health facility. Conclusions: Inspite of implementation of various programmes like Janani Suraksha Yojana, Matrutva Anudan Yojana and NRHM in the area percentage of registration during first trimester was less. There was lack of awareness and motivation in study subjects to come on their own to PHC for early registration of pregnancy. Though the coverage of ANC services was good it was not of good quality

Soft chemical routes to semiconductor nanostructures

    Get PDF
Soft chemistry has emerged as an important means of generating nanocrystals, nanowires and other nanostructures of semiconducting materials. We describe the synthesis of CdS and other metal chalcogenide nanocrystals by a solvothermal route. We also describe the synthesis of nanocrystals of AlN, GaN and InN by the reaction of hexamethyldisilazane with the corresponding metal chloride or metal cupferronate under solvothermal conditions. Nanowires of Se and Te have been obtained by a self-seeding solution-based method. A single source precursor based on urea complexes of metal chlorides gives rise to metal nitride nanocrystals, nanowires and nanotubes. The liquidliquid interface provides an excellent medium for preparing single-crystalline films of metal chalcogenides

A Control Scheme For A 3 –Phase Power Converter With An Unbalanced AC Source

    Get PDF
Three-stage dc–ac control converters experience the ill effects of power oscillation and over current issues in the event of the uneven air conditioning source voltage that can be caused by lattice/generator shortcomings. Existing strategies to deal with these issues are appropriately choosing and controlling the positive-and negative-grouping streams. In this venture, another arrangement of control techniques which use the zero succession segments are proposed to improve the power controllability under this unfriendly condition. It is inferred that by presenting legitimate zero-grouping current controls and relating circuit setups, the power converter can empower more adaptable control targets, accomplishing better exhibitions in the conveyed control and the heap current when experiencing the lopsided voltage. Fuzzy controller is utilized for the better smoothening of yield wave frames. Recreation results are exhibited to confirm the achievability of the proposed approach in MATLAB/SIMULINK condition
